01 Choose the outcome before the screen recording

Write down what the viewer should understand by the end. “Create a draft follow-up from these notes” is easier to evaluate than “see our platform.” Keep the recording focused on that outcome.

Extra features can have their own demonstrations instead of interrupting the first one.

02 Make the starting conditions visible

Explain the input, permissions and setup the workflow requires. Use synthetic or approved data, and close notifications before recording.

A viewer should be able to distinguish steps you completed beforehand from work the product performs during the demonstration. Label prerecorded segments or edited waiting periods where that affects understanding.

03 Include the review step

Show how someone checks the result before relying on it. Point out a meaningful limitation in the same workflow, such as a missing source or a detail that needs correction.

A demonstration is more useful when it explains where the person remains responsible for the output.

04 Finish with a reproducible next action

Link to a working starting point and state any prerequisites. If access is limited, say how requests are handled without promising an unconfirmed response time.

Ask a person unfamiliar with the product to follow the steps. Note where they pause, then revise the demonstration before recording another version.
